point studies no. 4

point studies no. 4 (2014)
point studies no. 4 was written for Dutch sound poet Jaap Blonk. Like other works in my point studies series, the score is generated live with MaxMSP/Jitter and varies in each instantiation. The score comprises five sets of concentric rings and rotating radials. Each of the rings is articulated with a series of colored nodes which represent consonants (fricatives, plosives, affricates, nasals, approximants) which are enunciated by the vocalist as they intersect with each of the radials, which represent one of five vowels. Accompanying the live exploration of the score, is a computer-generated interpretation created from a library of prerecorded vocal samples. You can watch the score (upper video), or Jaap Blonk's performance (middle video) while hearing both sound streams, live and computer-generated. You can also watch both together (bottom video).
